Victory for Immigrant Children

Bravo to President Obama and Congress for passing the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) Reauthorization Act which will strengthen health care for America’s children. This legislation ensures health coverage for four million more children in the U.S., and ends the five-year waiting period for legal immigrants (under existing law, legal immigrants are generally barred from Medicaid and the SCHIP for five years after they enter the United States). This is the first real demonstration of the Obama Administration’s commitment to the Latino community. We look forward to seeing what’s next.
