Democracia AHORA helped bring together leaders of our community and some of our residence most in need to discuss the urgency for reform in theis countries health care system. Working with groups like ACORN, SEIU, and Jobs with Justice, we saw a great turn out of both citizens and elected officials. The panel consisted of Congressman Alan Grayson, Maggie Devane from Congresswoman Suzanne Kosmas’ office, Bakari Burns CEO of Health Care Center for the Homeless, a candidate for Orange County Mayor, and Van Church of SEIU. Various community members shared their impassioned stories with the officials and the crowd, moving some even to tears. Congressman Grayson through his support behind the reform whole heartedly. Ms. Devane committed to report back to Congresswoman Kosmas and encourage her to make a public statement. The event was both moving and inspiring as a first step in making health care available to all in an affordable accessible way. Democracia AHORA is also assisting with the organization of a similar meetings in Miami and St. Petersburg on Thursday April 16th.
