It is without a doubt that Barack Obama is making steps towards mending a relationship with Cuba. We saw it yesterday in his Administration lifting travel and remittance restrictions for Cuban Americans to visit their family on the island.
But that wasn’t the only significant thing that came of the briefing. Dan Restrepo, the President’s senior advisor on Latin America, spoke in Spanish.
Just to put it in perspective, no other language, other than English has ever been spoken during a White House briefing.
This may represent the ever growing significance that Latinos have in the politics of the United States.
Not a foreign language at all.
