City leaders spar over immigration, 287(g)

HOUSTON—The immigration issue hit Houston City Hall today and bounced straight into the mayoral race.  It’s over 287(g), a partnership between local and federal authorities that gives local law enforcement the power to enforce immigration laws.

Voting Present on Illegal Immigration

Immigration activists and Hispanic groups are demanding that President Obama deliver on his promised comprehensive package of immigration reform.

Already, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., has derided federal sweeps of illegal aliens as “un-American.” And recently the Obama administration stripped the federal authority of Arizona’s controversial Maricopa County sheriff, Joe Arpaio, to make immigration arrests.

Sen. Vitter Tries to Use the Census to Further Anti-Immigration Agenda

Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) has hit the trifecta by playing politics with the 2010 Census. Vitter is demanding that Congress cut off funding for the 2010 Census unless the survey asks an additional question: whether the respondent is a U.S. citizen.

Immigration Reform Still A Priority? ( FOX )

‘Mexican Man’ costume offends Latino shoppers, community groups

The photo on the costume packaging shows a man with a thick mustache wearing a poncho and a sombrero. Oakland resident Monica Plazola said she discovered the costume last week at the Spirit Halloween store in Emeryville, which she was visiting with her two children, ages 7 and 9.

House health-care reform bill to include public option

House to Roll Out Its Health Care Bill Thursday
