Dear Encuentro Participant:
On behalf of the Democracy Alliance, I would like to invite you to join more than 150 of the nation’s most generous progressive philanthropists and most innovative movement leaders for a day of critical discussion, deliberation, and information related to the upcoming 2010 midterm elections.
On April 28, from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., at the Montage Resort in Laguna Beach, California, the Democracy Alliance community will come together with special guests like James Carville and Henry Cisneros to discuss the current political landscape, the upcoming battle over redistricting, the important role that Latinos play within the progressive movement, and how we can recapture the momentum of 2008. The day will end with an opportunity to meet Democracy Alliance members over dinner at the resort’s ocean-front restaurant.
As you may know, the Democracy Alliance is a collaboration of progressive business and philanthropic leaders that was founded in 2005 to identify and support progressive organizations committed to advancing a long-term positive vision for America and building a sustainable progressive majority. Since our inception, approximately 100 Alliance members have invested more than $130 million in organizations that, together, strengthen the leadership, intellectual, media, and civic engagement capacities of the progressive movement.
Past Democracy Alliance meeting participants have included a “who’s who” of the progressive movement including President Bill Clinton, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Secretaries Kathleen Sebelius and Arne Duncan, Governor Tim Kaine, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel and Deputy Chief of Staff Jim Messina, Majora Carter, Cecilia Munoz, Ben Jealous, Elizabeth Warren, Maria Echaveste, George Soros, and Van Jones.
We hope that you and the other participants of Encuentro will join us and get to know this dynamic community and explore engagement with the progressive movement.
